Taking care of your tattoo is essential to ensure proper healing and to maintain the quality of the design for years to come. At Primal Tattoos, we want to make sure your new ink stays vibrant and healthy, so follow these aftercare instructions carefully:
Leave the Bandage On
Your artist will cover your tattoo with a bandage or wrap after your session. Leave it on for at least 2-4 hours to protect the area from bacteria and allow the skin to begin healing.
Gently Wash the Tattoo
Once you remove the bandage, gently wash your tattoo with warm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Avoid scrubbing; use your hands to lightly cleanse the area. Pat dry with a clean paper towel—never rub.
Apply a Thin Layer of Ointment
After washing, apply a thin layer of tattoo-specific ointment or unscented moisturizer. Avoid heavy lotions, as they can clog pores. Repeat this 2-3 times a day for the first few days.
Avoid Soaking or Swimming
For at least two weeks, avoid submerging your tattoo in water, including baths, swimming pools, and hot tubs. Stick to quick showers and be gentle with the tattooed area.
Protect from the Sun
Tattoos are sensitive to sunlight, especially during the healing process. Keep your tattoo covered or apply sunscreen once it’s fully healed to preserve the colors and prevent fading.
Expect Some Peeling
As your tattoo heals, you may notice some light scabbing or peeling—this is completely normal. Avoid picking at the scabs or scratching the area, as it can lead to ink loss or infection.
Stay Hydrated and Healthy
A well-hydrated body helps with the healing process. Drink plenty of water and maintain a balanced diet to support your skin’s natural recovery.
